   Electronic Notary Initiative

From the Pennsylvania Department of State web site:

"The Electronic Notarization Initiative will permit qualified Pennsylvania notaries public to perform notarizations electronically as part of electronic documents that are recorded electronically by participating Pennsylvania country recorders of deeds. Phase I of the Electronic Notarization Initiative will begin on January 30, 2006, and is authorized for up to one year. This Initiative presents the Department of State with an exciting opportunity to utilize what is learned from the Initiative as a means of identifying the components of a workable statewide electronic notarization program, while providing safeguards for consumers, recording offices and notaries alike. The Initiative will enhance e-commerce among Pennsylvania businesses and reduce manual document examination, indexing and paper document costs for participating recorders of deeds. The Initiative will also provide the Department with the ability to assess the level of interest in the use of electronic notarization among Pennsylvania businesses, government and financial institutions, as well as among notaries public and consumers."
